Healthy Eating Made Easy

Nutrition blog - is coffee good or bad

Coffee good or bad???

1 June, 2020

What happens when we drink coffee? Caffeine stimulates our sympathetic nervous system, which you may also know as our ‘fight or flight’ state. 1 May, 2020

I’m hearing from so many that they are snacking more than usual as they spend more time at home. I totally understand. There’s been so much change, uncertainty and fear in our lives over the last few months and food can provide comfort. However, the good news is snacking is not just an emotional response.

Did you know cooking your rice the day before actu Did you know cooking your rice the day before actually makes it healthier?

When cooked rice is cooled overnight in the fridge, it develops resistant starch which lowers its GI and impact on blood sugar levels. You can reheat rice the next day and the benefit remains.

My full guide to cooking perfect rice every time plus which variety to choose is in this week’s newsletter. Head to A CUT ABOVE KITCHEN on Substack or find the link in my bio @a_cut_above_kitchen

Lemon sweet treats for a gift or to share on Mothe Lemon sweet treats for a gift or to share on Mother’s Day.

Sicilian Almond Biscuits - this recipe is incredibly easy & so delicious! A gentle crunch on the outside & chewy in the middle with a touch of lemon.

Lemon Syrup Cake - made with almond meal, this cake is moist but not at all heavy. On of my all time favourites.

Full recipes in this week’s newsletter. Link in bio @a_cut_above_kitchen

Anzac biscuits are a recipe I’ve been making since Anzac biscuits are a recipe I’ve been making since I was a young girl. The classic is perfect but I wanted a version that was a little healthier.

I’ve used buckwheat flour instead of plain flour, added pepitas & used less sugar. Same crunchy, chewy texture just a little healthier.

This week’s newsletter has both recipes, the classic from Margaret Fulton and my healthier version. Grab the link in my bio.
